Practical Application

CRF is sprayed and allowed to cure (30-60 minutes for roads, 5-10 minutes for center line and rumble strips).

Then we apply 6-10 pounds of lime screening per square yard to help the emulsion cure properly and create a strong bond with the pavement.

1-3 applications may be applied in a pavement’s lifecycle, varying based on pavement age and condition. Many agencies incorporate CRF into their regular maintenance cycle to maintain optimal pavement performance.

Application Methods

There are several effective application methods:

Distributor truck applies CRF at a predetermined rate, allowing it to cure before applying lime screening. This method is ideal for treating entire roadway sections.

After initial application and lime screening, a broom system evens out and works the materials into open areas. As traffic kneads the surface, CRF tightens up and creates an effective seal.

Excellent for filling open areas and cracks, this method uses a rubber blade to work CRF into damaged sections. A second application can be made after the first cures, followed by sanding and rolling with a rubber-tired roller.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The lime screening serves multiple purposes: it helps the emulsion cure properly, prevents tracking, protects the fresh treatment from traffic damage, and ensures proper bonding with the pavement surface.

After application, the road surface will have an uneven color for 1-4 months. This will fade to a smooth, light gray finish within 4-6 months. Any scuffing will completely disappear within a year.

CRF works best on roads with moderate deterioration (PCI 60-70 or PASER 6-7). It’s particularly well-suited for county roads, rural highways, and low to medium traffic municipal streets. For newer roads, we recommend our Reclamite treatment instead.

CRF is less expensive and less intrusive than traditional preservation methods like chip seals. It requires no adjustment for ADA ramps or curb reveals and reduces the risk of vehicle damage from loose aggregate, while still providing excellent protection and rejuvenation.

Yes, CRF works extremely well as a foundation for other treatments like chip seals and microsurfacing. It can also be applied over existing chip seals to extend their service life and prevent aggregate loss.
